You’ve enjoyed reading the story of the old house of the Gillego Family, how it survived the test of time. The three remaining old houses of Sorsogon City are……

THE OLD HOUSE OF THE MONJE FAMILY
Located at Barangay Bitan-o…this house was built in 1937 by Alejandro Monje and Marta Jesalva Monje. According to Tia Sasay Monje, the daughter of the mentioned couple, she was only two years old when the their house was built. She and her other siblings grew together in the said house.

Tia Sasay told me that during those days, Sorsogon is very different than how it looks today. In Bitan-o there are just but a few houses in the neighborhood. The road near their house up to to the site of Colegio de la Milagrosa is not yet cemented but just a pathway of soil. But inspite of this very simple living, the people of Sorsogon are definitely happy and contented during those days.

The worst nightmare of every Filipino came to reality when World War II exploded. Japanese troops invaded Sorsogon Province and controlled it. Sorsogueños leave their houses and evacuated in fear of the Japanese soldiers. The Monje’s felt the same way so their parents decided to flee at Castilla, Sorsogon and leave their house behind.

Four years of Japanese occupation, and the Monje Family has nothing to do but to hide in the mountainous part of Castilla. According to Tia Sasay, her father receives a news that their house has been occupied by the Japanese soldiers as their quarter. Life during the Japanese war was so mesirabale…Tia Sasay said.

Finally, war is over. It was year 1945 when the Philippines was liberated by the Americans from the claws of the Japanese occupation. Filipinos hiding for four years…came out and went back to their own place and houses. Indeed the aftermath of Japanses war are unforgettable. Some houses we’re burned and destroyed, bridges and roads are devastated….but the Monje family has something to cheer up…because their house stood still amidst the terror of war.

The Family decided to go back to their house at Bitan-o. Four years of absesnce plus the occupation of the Japanese soldiers makes the house so messy. Tia Sasay told me that their Family don’t give up on that matter but rather started to rehabilitate the said ancestral house.

Three years passes and the life of the Sorsoganons slowly came back to the normal situation. Another catasthrope came to test the strength of the Monje’s old house but by this time it’s a natural calamity. Sorsogon was hit by the strongest storm they can ever imagine that will gonna happened. Thypoon Trex devastated the Province in 1948. According to Tia Sasay that was the strongest thypoon she ever experienced during those times. What happen to the Monje’s house? When the storm was over the following day…to their amazed it still standing

Five decades had passed away and here we are to the new melinium…but the old house of the Monje’s is still standing. As a proof, if you are here in Sorsogon City, try to pass by at Bitan-o and you can see this old house that I am telling you. Inspite of the changes of our society today
The Old House of the Monje Family is the evidence of strength of Filipino craftsmanship that will be rermembered through out the times.

THE OLD HOUSE OF THE DE VERA FAMILY

My article concerning De Vera’s old house is very limited due to lack of resource person to tell me a story behind this house. Built in 1905 (because the year is engraved at the iron grills of the terrace) and this house is located just beside the Sorsogon Pilot Elementary School. According to some stories that I’ve heard this old house of the De Vera’s is one of the biggest house in Sorsogon during the early years. This house also was used by the Japanese as their Garisson during the Worls War II.

For pictures of the De Vera’s old house, just visit our SorsogonWeb Gallery and look for it under the Old Houses Category.

THE OLD HOUSE OF THE MELLA FAMILY

Likewise…the old house of the Mella’s has it’s own story to tell but because of lack of resource person, the author wishes to ask an apology for such situation like this. The Mella’s Old house was built in 1936 and it is located at Almendras, Sorsogon City.

For picture of the Mella’s house please visit our SorsogonWeb Gallery and look for it under the Old House Category.

THE OLD HOUSES OF SORSOGON CITY

One of the treasures that Sorsogon Province posses are, it’s Culture and Heritage. Amidst the influence of modern technology that this Province is now oriented, the existence of it’s history, culture and heritage are still visible, even now a days.

The Province of Sorsogon is so rich with natural resources and manmade heritage that every Sorsoganon should be proud of. We have the majestic Bulusan Volcano and it’s lake, the white sand beach of Subic Island in Matnog, the caves of Bulan and Prieto Diaz, the Botong, Palogtoc and the Bayugin Falls, the Masacrot and the San Benon Hot and cold spring of Irosin and many more.

Relics of historical ruins or structures, that serves as evidence of the lives of the early Sorsogueños are still existed. Among this relics are the old church of Barcelona and Bacon , the ruins of old municipal building of Barcelona , the fortress of Bacon called “Baluarte” and the old houses.

The Municipality of Juban is well known for their old houses, old houses that are built during the Spanish occupation. But at this point of time I’m not going to post the old houses of Juban, but the old houses of Sorsogon City instead. Later I will post an articles about the old houses of Juban.

As I grew in Sorsogon, Sorsogon (now Sorsogon City) i.ve seen a lot of old houses around the City. But as the years goes by, some of this old houses, vanished due to some circumstances. Some was destroyed by natural calamity, specially typhoon. The others were demolished by their owner and was replaced with new buildings.

But there are four old houses in Sorsogon City that are still standing, even this time. And this four old houses are our featured topic today.

THE OLD HOUSE OF THE GILLEGO’S

This old house was located at Burgos Street, Talisay Sorsogon City, in front of St.Louise de Marillac formerly Collegio de la Milagrosa. I’ve personally interviewed one of the heir of the said house, and he is Mr.Abilio P. Gillego or “Tiyo Bil”.

According to Tiyo Bil, their house was built through the effort of their parents,Don Roman and Doña Magdalena Gillego during the early 1900’s (1904 or 1905).

Tiyo Bil said that, there are nine siblings in the Family. Their eldest was born on 1909, while he was born on 1927. Tiyo Bil’s story was filled with enthusiasm, “Sorsogon was a very peaceful place during those times, everybody is safe and secured.” He said..He and the other siblings spent their childhood and youth’s in that house.

During the Japanese occupation (1941 – 1945), the Gillego Family choose to stay in their house rather than to evacuate and leave their house like the other Sorsogueños did, in fear of the Japanese soldiers. Tiyo Bil even pointed to me the place where the Japanese soldiers have their check points, just near their house.

Four years of Japanese occupation, but the Gillego’s stayed on their house. Finally the war was about to end when the American Troops arrived to liberate the Philippines from the invading claws of the Japanese Army. The Gillego Family were forced to leave their house for a while to evade the excessive crossfire between the American Troops, the Japanese and the Guerillas. But according to Tiyo Vel they don’t leave that far, they’re just somewhere in Bitan-o ( a nearby street).

Finally the war is over, but the house of the Gillego’s remain standing amidst the terror of the second world war.

1950’s, another decade for the Gillego’s abode. The strength of this house was tested when the strongest typhoon of the decade hits Sorsogon, the “Typhoon TREX”. Hundreds of houses within Sorsogon, Sorsogon was destroyed by this Super Typhoon Trex that hit the Province during the 1950’s. The house of the Gillego’s prevails the test of time for the second time.
Tiyo Bil pointed to me the portion of the house (somewhere in the kitchen) that was slightly torned by the said storm.

Four decades (1960,1970,1980 and 1990) passed, and now it’s a new millenium, the year 2000’s, but the old house of the Gillego’s still standing triumphantly after the pressures of the test of times. I couriously asked Tiyo Bil how they maintained their old house, he said “ they did some repairs, but they see to it that the original structures of the house, remains as is..” Tiyo Bil pointed to me the crooked post of the house, and he said “ try to hammer a nail into that post and let us see if the iron nail penetrates?" .. The carvings on the ceilings are so amazing, it's silently testify the aged of the house.

Finally, our conversation (me and Tiyo Bil) has come to an end. I thanked him for spending his precious time just to tell me the story of their old house. I’ve learned something from Tiyo Bil’s story, and that is to be strong to the test of thetime, just like their Family and their House.

For pictures of the Old House of the Gillego Family, please visit our Sorsogonweb Gallery...look for it under the category of the Old Houses. "We must have a sense of identity even just in the way we dress, specially if we would like to promote the Pili. Even in our social and official functions, specially during formal occasions, the Pili fruit is a design that can be hand painted on your Barong", said Guhit(on my personal interview with her) who also conceptualized the first Sorsogon Pili Festival in 2000.

"When you don that Barong, you should feel good that you're a Sorsoganon. Wherwever you go, you a marked", she added.

The PIA Official said an insignia of Pili on Government officilas and employees' dresses would readily recognize a person as a Sorsoganon.

Representatives for the WOW Philippines presentatation in Manila, specially the Sorsogon Choir and all the City Officials, for instance will be wearing dresses with hand painted Pili designs to show that they are from Sorsogon, according to Guhit.

She further suggested using differente colored designs to desinate ranks: green for Baranggay Officials, green and violet for Municipal Officials and black for Baranggay Officials. "It has a promotional value. You don't have to say anything because it's a language of it's own." This prompetd the National Economic Developement Authority (NEDA) to declare SORSOGON the commodity champion for Pili.

The Province of Sorsogon is so rich in Pili, partricularly in Bacon District, where Pili Industry is one of their major means of livelihood...in fact there are century old of Pili Tree that are still existing in this area. In Sorsogon City there are also century old Pili Tree, one in Guinlajon,in Almendras and in San Juan Roro.

100 Years Old Pili Tree at Roro, Sorsogon City

I've personally interviewd the owner of the 100 years old Pili Tree in San Juan Roro. According to Mr.Balbino Duran his Pili Tree is certified 100 years old because he inherit this from his great great grandparents. Mr.Duran's property is rich in Pili Trees and other giant fruit bearing trees. According to him he called his property as a "Forest within the City" because of gigantic tress that is planted in his area.

Pili Tree Plantation

Pili fruit is well known through out the Bicol Region, specially in Sorsogon. Sorsoganons love to eat this kind of fruit of the land. Pili fruit has three stage of maturity; the young fruit is known by it's green color, while the middle one is branded by it's violet color. The black one is the mature Pili fruit. This is the stage where it is ready for any process. The well known among the Sorsogueños is the LINANTA NA PILI.

Lantahon na Pili

The mature Pili fruit is dip into a lukewarm water for about 15 to 20 minutes, then remove it to the lukewarm water and presto! it's cooked already. How to eat the Linanta na Pili? First, peel off the black covering then get the fibrous meat and dip it into a sauce called "Patis" (salted fish sauce) and eat it together with your rice....wow it's so delicious (mananamom baga). You can eat it also as a dessert, by simply dipping it to sugar instead of patis...and this is called "Tampuyak"

Lagting na Pili

The remains of the Linanta na Pili is called "LAGTING". The Lagting is the oval shape pointed ended hard pili shell that in-house the other Pili wonder called "I-LOG'. You have to crack the Lagting by using a stone or a bolo and this process is called "TILAD"

The I-log is the nut shape part of the Pili Fruit. Out of this I-log are various of sweet pili candies (delecasies) can be made, for example: The KUNSIRBA, BUDING, MULIDO, KARMELITOS, ROASTED PILI, MAZAPAN DE PILI, PILI BRITTLE and even SALTED PILI and many more.

One Sorsoganon successesfully engaged in Pili Candy Industry and gained a named as far as Pili Candy are concerned. You can easily send and receive communication through out the world by using this kind of Technology.
Emails is the fastest way to send your messages to your love one's, friends and relatives through out the country and even abroad. Catch the latest news, your favorite sports, play your computer games and chat even to your most admire celebreties, by using the Internet.
This kind of Information Technology already reached out SORSOGON. Internet Cafe's are in every corner of the Province specially at Sorsogon City. All people from different walks of life enjoy and benefit from this kind of Modern Technology.
There is one IT Company who started it all here in Sorsogon...and that is the "GLOBALink Internet Inc." GLOBALink is an Internet Service Provider (ISP) of all the Internet Cafe's and even private subscriber here in the Province of Sorsogon.
GLOBALink is a Company driven to provide customers with a complete solution to their entire current and future Internet and private network needs. The Company's customer base includes government and non-government offices, colleges and universities, and all small to medium-sized businesses. GLOBALink benefits from several strategic tie-ups by receiving very competetive pricing on most services, allowing the Company to offer competetive pricing on it's services to customers. Competitive threats come from other ISP's located in or around Legazpi City, including the following companies: Sky Internet, Digitelone and Catsnet. Most competitors offer solutions for Windows but ignore all other operating systems. With the rise of Linux and other alternative operating systems, there is potential for GLOBALink to surpass its competitors. GLOBALink has an excellent management team with direct knowledge of the Industry, extensive research experience and unique administration skills. It's team is headed by Engr. Martin C. Chusuey an ECE.
Brief History of how the GLOBALink got started.
Late in 1996 six equally minded indiviuals from varied fiels of endeavor convened together with the purpose and vision of enhancing and augmenting the lamentable state of Information Technology available in Bicol Region. Out of this meeting, four of them are, (an Electronics and Communication Engineer, a B.S. Computer Science Graduate from Ateneo de Manila, a Bank Executive and an Entrepreneur) went and attended an Information Technology Exposition in Manila.
Right there and then, with the help of a friend who is an expert along in Information Technology here in Asia, they were enlightend and finally decided to put up an Internet Service Provider in Albay. GLOBALink was then stablished with a start of a modest bandwhich and a server setup in the office of an incorporator.
GLOBALink Internet is apoint of Presence MozCom in Albay. MozCom is in turn the pioneer commercial ISP in the Philippines. MozCom is currently the nation's largest Internet service provider in terms of Geographic presence, with more than 70 points of presence (PoP) nationwide linked to a domestic backbone of multiple E1 lines and satellite links.
So that's how the GLOBALink got started...and now they are here to Sorsogon City for a purpose, and that is to serve the Sorsoganon's Information Technolgy needs. Holy week here in Sorsogon is the same as it was before...what i mean is the celebration or how the people celebrate it. For the Catholics, of course the usuall traditions like; it will start on the Ash wednesday untill the traditional Domingo de Ramos (palm sunday), the processions, the Good Friday's "Siete Palabras", the Pabasa, the Senakulo, the Penetencia, The Crusifixion, the "Tanggal", and the "Saklot" or "Salubong" on early morning of Easter Sunday.

To some other Christians also (who has other belief than the Catholics) they too have their own way of Celebrating the Holy week. They go also to their respective Churches or Congregation on Good Friday to attend Church Service on which the Pastor or the Minister, explained or exfound what the Word of God (the Bible) says about the suffering and the death of our Lord Jesus Christ on the cross of calvary to redeemed mankind from sin.

It is a rainy Holy week we have here in Sorsogon City, specially during Good Friday...it almost rain through out the day...but when evening comes, it stop. Anyway, whatever belief we have..may we have that attitude to respect one's "paniniwala"..what is important is we reflect in our lives the true meaning of the Holy week, and that is the Love of God to us that he gave His only Son (Jesus) that whosoever beleives in him will not perished but will have an everlasting life (John 3:16).......tell then my Friends and remember...that God is good....all the time.

COME....VISIT SORSOGON!

SORSOGON PROVINCE is located at the Southern part of Luzon that belongs to the Bicol Region, Philippines. Sorsogon Province is consist of 14 Municipalities and 1 City. It was a month ago when the whole world was shocked by the news of a killer Tsunami that hits the countries of southeast asia and africa, a day after Christmas. Thousand of people perished the said catastrophe. Countries who are devastated are Sri Lanka, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Maldives, Bangladesh, Somalia and Thailand.

Sad to say that among those who lost their lives are our fellow Filipinos. These "Kababayan" of ours are working in this mentioned countries when the Tsunami hits their place. To be more specific one our Kababayan from Sorsogon was included in the list of those who died in that horrible killer wave.

Joy Lomadilla

KATHRYN JOY LOMADILLA, 22 years old of 8th st. OLV Pangpang was one of the thousand people who lost her life on the December 26 tragedy. KATHRYN JOY LOMADILLA was working as a Pro Choreographer in SOFITEL MAGIC LAGOON HOTEL located at KHAO LAK, PANG NGA PROVINCE,THAILAND. JOY (as she is commonly called) is only 5 months working in Thailand.

JOY was reportedly missing after several days when the Tsunami strucked Khao Lak, Thailand. JAY DECAYCO (Joy's Boyfriend) is also working in Thailand (Phuket) when the disaster happened, JAY survived the catastrophe. Right after the Tsunami, Jay try to contact Joy on her cellphone, but to no avail. Jay want to go to Khao Lak immediately but his employer don't permit to go due to some reason.

It was already December 29, 2004 when Jay has a chance to go to Khao Lak to checked what happen to Joy. Jay arrived at Sofitel Hotel and Joy's other companions tell him that Joy is missing, untill they a recieved a phone call telling them that they have Joy's body. A Thai Family mistakenly toke Joy's body and brought it to Bangkok knowing that it is their sister.

JAY immediately informed Joy's Family in the Philippines. That time (in the Philippines) Joy was reported in all TV and Radio through out the country,as still missing. Joy's older sister KRISTINE MAY LOMADILLA, who is a member of the BAYANIHAN DANCE TROOP started to look for a possible ways to flew to Bangkok. With the help of Mayor Lito Atienza (Mayor of Manila) Ambassador Antonio Rodriguez and Consol Bernie Candolada, KRISTINE flew to Thailand on New Year's day.

Finally KRISTINE MAY (Joy's sister) identified Joy's body at the Bangkok Hospital Morgue. It was only then that Joy's Family confirmed that she perished in that disaster. Joy's remains was cremated on January 4, 2005, present during the cremation are Ambassador Antonio Rodriguez, Ms.Grace Bañez (Philippine Embassy) Ms Edith Sethandha (Filipino Community) Kristine, Jay and Viralyn Torecampo.

January 6, 2005 when KRISTINE MAY left Thailand via Thai Airways and a few minutes after, JAY DECAYCO left Thailand too bringing the URN of Joy's ashes. Upon arriving Manila, Joy's URN was housed at Philippine Womens University Chapel, hosted by the BAYANIHAN PHILIPPINES FOLK DANCE COMPANY. For teh imformation of everybody, JOY LOMADILLA is already a member of the Bayanihan Dance Troop before she left for Thailand, in fact she already travelled with the group at Pusan,Korea. She only went to Thailand for a short termed contract.

Joy's urn was brought by her Family to Daraga,Albay since her Father is from that place. She stayed there for a couple days (Jan.08-09,2005}

KATHRYN JOY LOMADILA was born on November 27, 1983 and grew up in Sorsogon. A lot of young Ballerinas from different Schools was trained by JOY, being the Choreographer of Ballet de Sorsogon. Various Workshop and Recitals are conducted by Ballet de Sorsogon.

Indeed the contribution of KATHRYN JOY LOMADILLA's GOD given talent to SORSOGON will remain in the heart of her student and it will be a Legacy to be remembered.

A tribute concert was was conducted in memory of her. The said Tribute concert was held at the Sorsogon Capitol Park last January 12, 2005.

Now that KATHRYN JOY LOMADILLA is in the mighty hands of GOD, may she found eternal peace and joy. We are now embracing year 2005 hoping that this year is a year of great hope for all of us.

It is only now that i've realized and decided to write and post this article of what had happened here in SORSOGON just this December 2, 2004. To my Kababayan na mga taga SORSOGON through out the world, I want you to know that something stranged happened here in our place. What happened here last December is relevant to what had happened to our neighboring countries here in Asia, a day after Christmas.

It all begun at around 10:00 pm of December 2, 2004 while typhoon "Yoyong" is about to cross the Bicol Region, including Sorsogon. I'ts a windy, rainy and stormy night when a man who is a resident of pier site in Bgy.Talisay allegedly gave the alarm that a "Buhawi"(Tornado) was about to hit Sorsogon City. The word quickly spread like wildfire as the neighborhood began to panic.

One of the neighbor of that man (who started the alarm) said that he was listening to the radio (DZRH) the news about the typhoon when he heard a shout urging everyone to run for safety or should i say to run for their lives. "Mga bandang alas diyes san gab-i san bigla na lang may nagparasiyak na may maabot kuno na Buhawi...pagkakita ko na nagparalanat na an mga tawo, pinurukaw ko tolos an asawa ko nan an mga batit ko. Pakaradto sa simbahan an daralagan san tawo, kaya didto man kami duminalagan." the witness narrated.

Few of those who panics went to the Police Sub-station no.1 located near the church and informed the policemen on dutuy. Alarmed, the police promptly boarded a service vehicle and went around to warn residents of the coming "Danger".Those residents who panicked belongs to the costal barangays, like of Sirangan,Talisay,Bitan-o,Cabid-an (Seabreeze)Sampaloc and Cambulaga.

Witnessed said, people scampered towards the highway while others rode in all kinds of vehicles to escape the coming danger. Text messages from panicked relatives reached the towns of Castilla, Casiguran, Juban, Magallanes and Bulan, causing a chain reaction of mass hysteria. Because of this situation, most people run and panicked without even knowing why they are running....some says "Basta nakabati kami sin mga warning na mag harali na kami sa mga balay namon kaya nagdaralagan man kami."

It was around 1:00 o'clock in the morning when the commotion subsides...The people of Sorsogon begun Thanking GOD "Salamat sa Diyos wara man sin Buhawi", so the people returned to their houses and rested. Afterwards the man who started the warning was asked what he sees that night that urge him to shout the warning who triggered the panicked. "Wara man ako pagsiyak nin Buhawi...an sabi ko ugaring, may nakita ako na maitom na dampog na korteng pinuso sa tapat san Sablayan, Juban...an sabi ko, basi Buhawi idto" narrates the witness.

Since nothing happened, no Buhawi arrived, the people says it is a False Alarm. I've only realized what happened when the Killer Tsunami hits the Countries of Southeast Asia like, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia, Maldives, Bangladesh and Somalia in Africa. The whole world was shocked by the news of that Catastrophe that hit these Countries a day after Christmas (December 26,2004)who claimed the lives of thousand people in a split second disaster.

I can't help myself but to contemplate what had happened to Sorsogon on that night of December 2,2004.... WHAT ABOUT IF THAT BUHAWI (TORNADO) IS REAL AND NOT A FALSE ALARM?...GOD FORBID...As i am watching on Television the thousand people who perished on that Killer Tsunami...what i can do is Praise and THANK GOD for sparing Sorsogon from that Dreadful, alleged Buhawi. Mga Kababayan ko'ng taga Sorsogon how Blessed we are that GOD spare our Province sa mga Kalamidad na nag aragi sa aton san naka-agi na taon 2004. Damo-damo an dapat naton na ipagpasalamat sa mahal na Diyos, nan sana maging eye opener o mag serbing pam-pukaw sa aton an mga pangyayari na idto san December 2,2004. Matuto na kita na ingatan an satuyang Kapalibutan (Environment) asin orog sa gabos an pagtubod asin pag pangadyi sa Mahal na Diyos na permi kitang isalbar sa mga kasakitan. I don't want to sound so religious pero amo ini an inhahagad san pagkakataon. Kaya niyan na 2005 sana maging okey an gabos..

Ako bilang sarong FM-DJ, as early as September nagpapadiyot-diyot na ako sana pag patugtug sin mga Christmas Songs, pag October,November hanggan Pasko, talagang ratsada na sana an Christmas Songs on air.

May kasabihan ngani na Christmas Season is the most wonderful time of the year, well of course that is true, dahil sabi na ngani naton na mga Pilipino na maski krisis, maski masakit an buhay, pero nano daw ina ano? kay pag Pasko na nalutaw man maski puro-papan-o an kwarta san mga tawo. Of course an mga empleyado may in-aasahan na 13 month pay nan Christmas Bonos hale sa sainda na nga intatrabahoan.

Didi sa Sorsogon, maogmahon man an pag selebrar didi san Pasko.

Of course an iba man mabakal sin Pandesal dida sa Sorsogon Grocery and Bakery o kaya sa Janes bakeshop o ini na Julies Bakeshop. An mga Daraga y Soltero man, pag medyo may kwarta medyo didto man sa Jollibee,Chowking,Graceland o sa Greenwhich an daralagan.

Anyway. hain man kamo niyan. aram ko na maogma man guihapon kamo. Kaya sa mga kababayan ko'ng SORSOGANON,
MAOGMANG PASKO ASIN MAGAYA-GAYANG BAG-ONG TAON SA INDO GABOS!

International Award for Sorsogon's City Mayor

CONGRATULATIONS! to Sorsogon's City Mayor, Honorable Sally A. The Botong Twin Falls is located on the mountainous part of Osiao, Bacon District, Sorsogon City. The said twin falls was developed and maintained by PNOC-Bacman Geothermal Production Field, for the purpose of Eco-Tourism not only for Bacman but for the Province of Sorsogon as well. Botong Twin Falls serves as a Tourist attraction for both local and foreign tourist, it serves also as a venue for Educational Tours.
The famous falls is called twin because of the two sources of of water that flows through it. One is fresh water while the other is sulfuric. They fall from a height of about 30 metrs to a man made lagoon and eventually flow to the Osiao River.
Botong Twin Falls is ideal for picnic,eco-tourist destinations and also a very good site for pictorials. It is open to the public for visitation, provided there is a proper permission and coordination to the host Company, the PNOC-Bacman Geothermal Production Field. If you have been far away from Sorsogon for a long time and you will picture in your mind our Rempeolas or for some they call it as Pier, maybe what will you see in the screen of your imagination is the messy and the dark picture of the Rompeolas. But today it is very different from yesterday's image of the said place.

Through the leadership of Sorsogon City Mayor,Hon.Sally A.Lee, the Rompeolas now a day's is a very nice place to walk in or to jogg in every morning. If you want to take your breakfast with your family (with suman lihiya, ibos, biko, lanson and pancit that you buy "sa plaza")well it's a very nice place to dine because of the cottage type shade that is built on the side of the Rompeolas. In the evening, the Rompeolas is a nice place to take a rest after a hard days work, because of it's very bright ambiance given by those beautiful street lights all through out the Rompeolas.

Vendors of fihballs, kikiams and other delacasies are just around for the people who wants to take some snacks. So in general, MAGAYONON NA NIYAN AN ROMPEOLAS... Okey mga kabayan hanggan didi na lang anay.. "ULI NA KAMO SA SORSOGON NAN MAG PASYAR KAMO SA ROMPEOLAS".....
